2020 - 2021 Year 4

Well done to the children who were praised this week!

Our school sports day was a success - Year 4 challenged themselves, were motivated to achieve their best and used super teamwork skills! A special well done to our gold, silver and bronze medalists too!

Year 4 had a fantastic time at the Hawaiian Summer Fair! They visited lots of different stalls, played games and finished with a disco!

As part of our Raging Rivers topic, Year 4 have used their knowledge of rivers to create these fantastic 3D river models out of clay, tissue paper and natural resources found in our school garden.

Year 4 have been engaging in lots of fun and creative learning all about ‘Raging Rivers’. Here are a few pictures of them applying their knowledge about rivers and showing their fantastic drama skills!

Year 4 have been building circuits as part of their Electricity topic. The children added different components and cells to their circuits, made their own switches and predicted what would happen when more components were added.

In Science, we have been learning about sound; how it is made and how it travels. We designed and created our own ear defenders and tested them to see which worked the best!

Year 4 enjoyed celebrating all birthdays that fell in the lockdown periods. What a great day we had!

Year 4 have been exploring shape and proportion by sculpting with wire. We found this challenging but the results were rewarding.

Year 4 have had an amazing time celebrating Science Week. They have conducted a multitude of activities, including researching plastic use, litter picking and debating! We are working on spreading the word on how to reduce plastic use as a school.

We've had a fantastic first week back in school together! Year 4 have enjoyed lots of interesting lessons, including a science investigation into how sound is made!

World Book Day!

The Year 4 children celebrated World Book Day a little differently this year, where they took part in a week long celebration of reading and books from home. The activities varied from writing book reviews to reading in EXTREME places. Take a look at some of the super learning activities the children took part in.

All our online learning has moved to our TEAMs platform. The children have been engaging so well with our home-learning and sending lots of examples of their work, which can be viewed in the 'Pictures of our work' file on the Year 4 TEAMs page.

So... an interesting start to 2021.  Thank you for all your support so far.  

We will truly miss not seeing you all in school.  However, we are looking forward to starting this 'Home Learning' journey with you.  

 

Our 'Home Learning Platform' is Microsoft TEAMs so we will now be contacting you through TEAMs.  If you have any problems accessing your TEAMs account please contact us via the Year Group email Year4@Springfieldprimary.net.  

 

In addition to your TEAMs Home Learning, there is a star above which has a vast amount of information and resources that you can use to continue and support learning at home.  Good luck!

 

We will see you for the register on TEAMs tomorrow Wednesday 6th January 2020.

Week 6 reminders (wb 7th December)

There are lots of things going on over the next two weeks at school, so here are some important dates:

 

  • Mon 7th Dec - Greek Day - Children come dressed in their Greek costume, bring resources needed for their independent TASC and a snack to eat during our Greek Banquet.
  • Tuesday 8th - Christmas Markets- payment on ParentPay, Y4 are visiting during the morning of Tuesday.
  • Thursday 10th - Y4 are participating in a Music extravaganza Thursday afternoon.
  • Fri 11th Dec - Christmas hair - Your child can come to school with funky Christmas hair.
  • Tues 15th Dec - Y4 Class Christmas Parties - Children come into school in their Christmas party clothes for our class party in the afternoon. This is also Chocolate Tombola day so children are asked to bring in a £1 to enter the class raffle.
  • Fri 18th - Christmas Sparkle Day - Your child is able to come to school wearing something sparkly.

 

P.E. as usual on Wednesday and Friday for 4 Rooks.

Year 4 had a wonderful time celebrating and exploring music during the Music ExTraffordganza yesterday!

Well done to these Year 4 children for getting praised this week!

Year 4 have had a wonderful Greek Day today. We dressed up in Greek dress, compared and recorded why the Greeks are important to our existence, got creative conducting our TASC challenges and ate tasty treats during our Greek banquet. What a fabuloussly fun day we have had showcasing our knowledge of this topic.

Microsoft Teams- Password and Logins

Your child's Microsoft Teams login and password is in the front of their reading record. We will be using Teams if our bubble closes so we would like parents to help their child to log on and access learning. See home-learning plan. Please see Teams guide documents below to familiarise yourselves with the platform.

 

You also now have logins for Purple Mash, TTRockstars and Spelling Shed - in the reading record. For the rest of this half term, please allow your child to explore these programs as we may have already set activities for them to complete, or will do so in the future.

Year 4 have finished their Science investigation into how different liquids affect our teeth over time. We are shocked by the final results! Take a look for yourself...

Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed using their knowledge of Ancient Greece to create their own amphoras. The children designed their Greek amphoras, thinking about colour and shape. They then painted their designs and allowed them to dry before carefully etching them. Take a look at our fantastic amphoras below...

The Year 4 children used their speaking and listening skills to present their knowledge of different Greek Gods to present their posters. They first researched Greek Gods and used their findings to create colourful and informative Greek posters, which are now on displays in the classrooms.

This week, Year 4 made a stupendous and intriguing discovery! We are going to use this find as inspiration for writing our newspaper article next week.

NAMES IN CLOTHING

We have already had a number of missing jumpers due to no names in clothing. Please ENSURE all clothes are named and encourage your child to look after their things - put them on their peg or in their tray.

This will keep everyone covid safe and limit face to face contact.  Thank you for your understanding and support at this time.

Year 4 Homework 25.9.20 - These pieces of homework are to be written out and completed in each child's Homework books. Please have your child complete their English in the front and Maths in the back. We are also recommending children to use TT Rockstars for a couple of minutes each day.

It's been so wonderful to have all of the children back! We're looking forward to a brilliant year together in Year 4!
