A big thank you to one of our parents - Gwennan - for working with our Year 6s today! For the second year, Gwennan has run a finance workshop to help our pupils learn about banking, savings, risk and reward!
Geography: Volcanoes
We have been learning about volcanoes in geography. We began by looking at Mount St.Helens in North America and the effects of its eruption. Surprisingly, there are benefits to living near a volcano and we included these on our volcano diagram - as well as negatives!
British Science Week: Investigating The Effect of Exercise on Heart Rate
Today we worked in groups to measure how different exercises affected our heart rate. We recorded our results and used them to produce a fitness programme. The fitness programmes had to meet a specific goal. Some great team work and investigative science work🤩
Today in science we worked collaboratively to make the stage and models for our stop-motion animation project to show our learning.
Together We Are A Team
We are loving our Treasure Island unit of English! So far we have read and compared extracts from different versions of the story and watched the most famous film version! We can’t wait to start writing our own! “Aaargh ye old sea dogs!”

Science: Investigating Adaptation
Today we undertook an investigation into how animals adapt to their environment. We decorated lollipop sticks in different colours: half the class using very bright colours and half the class in dark colours. The lollipop sticks were hidden on the field and we had to hunt for them. We then put them in order of how quickly they were found and looked for conclusions.
Evolution & Adaptation
Today we started our new Science topic. We reflected on our learning from Year 3 and made a list of questions to find out more about fossils. We then used sources to try and find answers to our questions. We finished the lesson by playing a fossilisation game - trying to become a fossil against all the odds!
History: World War II Projects
A massive well done to everyone for the effort put into their projects! There were a lot of children who were motivated to achieve their best and challenged themselves to learn - some outstanding models, art work, poems, postcards and even cooking! Well done everyone👏
DT: Design Phase
We have been designing our vegetable curry recipes. Today we had a good smell of the spices we will be using!
D&T: Curry Tasting
Today in D&T we started our new project by tasting a range of vegetarian curries. We will use our tasting to inform our decisions during the design stage of the project.
English: Quest Story Short Write
Today we read a paragraph from a Beast Quest story. We discussed the content and language features and predicted how the story would progress. In pairs, we wrote the next paragraph.
Science: Observing through Heart Dissection
Today we consolidated our learning about the heart and circulatory system by performing a dissection. We used scalpels to dissect sheep hearts and identified the different parts of the heart we have learnt in science.
Maths: Long Division

History: Which of King Henry VIII’s marriages was most significant?
Today we learnt about King Henry VIII and details of his marriages. We then used a speaking frame to empathise with his wives, putting forward their case for why they are most important. Finally, we had to decide who we thought was the most significant of Henry’s wives.
Computing: Coding
We planned and designed a video game based on the classic “Pong”. Our designs are themed but use the same elements of the original game. After importing our images as sprites and stage backgrounds, we begun to create algorithms. We created a set of instructions for each sprite as control commands.

This week we have been working on footwork and changing between forehand and backhand grip.

Spoken Language: Comparing and Contrasting
Today in English, we watched a TV version of the story we have been reading: A Good Tip for Ghosts. We looked at the similarities and differences between the two and presented our findings as a Compare & Contrast speech. We focused on formal language, tone and cohesion.
