Sports Day 2022! What a day! With nearly everyone competing in every event it was a very busy, but fun day. Well done to everyone for your determination and participation. Plus a massive THANK YOU to all the parents who came to support and the PTA for providing some ice lolly relief on a very hot day!
SPRINGFEST! We had such a great day! Thanks so much to our amazing PTA for organising such a fun filled day for us. Check out the pictures to see what we took part in...
Some of our fantastic bee animations!
This week is our 'Passionate Protectors of the Environment Week' as part of our learning we are creating 'Stop-Go' animations all about bees, here is the start of the process. Watch this space for our final productions!
Additional to our Stop Go animations, we also have ventured down to Worthington Park, as part of our Eco-Week. We litter picked, conducted a wildlife survey, and of course, enjoyed some play time!
We have been learning how to play the djembe drum with Mr McMinn from the Trafford Music Service, we are looking forward to showing off our new skills in online concert soon!
Jubilee celebrations at Springfield.
God Save Our Queen!
The 'Queen' welcomes everyone to the garden party.
We learned how to draw a crown.

Measurement day challenges -volume, weight and length.
PE / Tennis - progression of racquet skills
Science - investigating friction by testing a range of surfaces to find out what effect they had on a moving object.
English - inspired by a piece of 'CCTV footage' which captured an alien spaceship visiting our school grounds, the children wrote letters to the alien to persuade it to come out of hiding. The children were so excited to get a response!
Music - producing a musical piece in 3 parts with Mrs Curzon.
The Big Plastic CountSome children have expressed an interest in taking part in the Big Plastic Count. Here's the link if you want to sign up:
Disco
Art - We learned about Pablo Picasso with Fiona, our Art specialist, and then designed and created their own cubist style portraits using paper bags and sticky-backed plastic.
Wheelie Treat - as a reward for completing the highest number of minutes on our '5-a-day' fitness challenge day last term, year 3 enjoyed a morning of wheelie, MUGA and Trim Trail fun followed by some more '5-a-day' fitness in class and a little downtime before lessons resumed.
3 Seville's wheelie fun - Watch out for Matthew's painful fall at the end. Ouch!
Science week 2022! What an exciting few days we have had learning about Global warming and how we can reduce it by planting more trees and plants! Year 3 have been conducting comparative tests to find out which material is the best to reflect light, in order to reach plants in darker areas. We planned our experiments, carefully thinking about how to keep them fair. We recorded our results in a table, then created bar graphs. Finally we analysed the results and discussed our conclusions. What a bunch of scientists! Well done!
Lego Coding - We have built our own Lego lions! We used our coding skills to make the lion roar and stand up when something passed by it. Our team work skills were put to the test and we learnt all about motion sensors and how the motor turns the cogs in order for the lion to move.
We have created these amazing 'Pop Art' self portraits, based on the work of the famous artist, Andy Warhol.
Art - for the last couple of weeks, 3 Seville have been making Ancient Egyptian canopic jars. In week 1 we used papier mache to form the 3D shape and then in week 2, we decorated the figures and added blue and gold stripes. We finished off the last session by sketching some pyramids and canopic jars. Can your child remember what each jar was for?
We set up a walking gallery in our classroom so we could admire each others' work.
PE - we are continuing to learn how to play cricket this half term. This week we played a complicated looking game that had us practising our batting, fielding and running. It was great fun!
Science - this half term, we are learning about rocks and soil. So far we have learned how rocks are formed and we have carried out some investigations to find out more about rocks. The children worked in groups to analyse 6 different types of rock. First we carried out a permeability test to see how porous each rock was. Next we carried out a density test, a hardness test and an acid test. Ask your child all about it to see if they can explain what they did and what results we found.
What happens when you drip an acid onto rocks that contain animal remaions? Watch and find out!
Spanish - we have been revising the colours in Spanish and learning to ask, "What is your favourite colour?" Do you like the song we have learned?
Art & History - we used salt dough and clay to create Ancient British Beaker pots, using the thumb, coil and slab method.
Take a look at Year 3's amazing art work they created for their homework. The effort that has gone into this work is incredible. In celebration of Chinese New Year next Tuesday we were asked by the manager of The Square if we could produce some 'Tiger' art work for a trail around Sale. Well done to you all.
Our Ancient Britain history topic is in full swing. The children have had the chance to be archaeologists searching for Stone Age artefacts, sketch some cave paintings and create a human timeline to understand how long ago Ancient Britain was.
This half term we are lucky enough to be having one of PE lessons each week with Toby from Cheshire Cricket. Check out our super cricket skills!
The Year 3 team would like to say thank you so much for your generosity over Christmas. The kind messages, cards and gifts were really appreciated! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!
