Homework

 

Homework is given out on a Friday and to be returned the following Wednesday.

Spellings will be given out and stuck into homework diaries. The children will be tested on the spellings the following Thursday.

Spelling Shed will have games on that cover these words too.

 

Each week please complete the following:

  • Your homework task.
  • 5 games on Spelling Shed.
  • 10 minutes on Times Tables Rock Stars per week. 
  • Lexia target minutes per week (see target minutes when you log on).
  • Please read at least three times a week and record in your homework diary.

Create Your Own Musical Instrument Homework.

 

For your homework over the next 2 weeks we would like you to create your own musical instrument.

In our Music lessons, we have been learning about pitch. The way a djembe drum is played changes the pitch (i.e. Bass - middle of the drum and Tone - side of the drum).

You can create any instrument of your choice but it must be able to make 2 different sounds/pitch.

You have 2 weeks to create this. Hand in date is Wednesday 13th July.

We will then be using our instruments, in small groups, to create a simple call and repeat in class.

Create Your Own Bee fact file

 

For your homework we would like you to create a bee fact file. You can choose any type of bee that interests you the most.

You can present this any way you like but make sure you punctuate correctly and present your work neatly.

 

Make sure you include the following features for your bee in your homework book:

 

  1. The name of the bee
  2. Why are bees important
  3. What is threatening their existence
  4. Habitat
  5. Diet
  6. Draw a picture

 

Optional extra homework

Next week we will be creating a bee animation using the iPads. It would be useful if you could download the free app to an iPad or your parent’s phone to have a play around with the app. It is a free app called Stop Motion Studio.

Jubilee Holiday Homework

Over the holidays, we would like the children to design and make a “Jubilee Crown or Hat” and bring it into school for our whole school celebration on Friday 17th June. Be as creative as you can! There are some ideas below in the document.

  • Research a famous Spanish person.
  • Why are they famous?

Speaking & Listening

This week we would like you to choose a topic that interests you and create a presentation to present to the class. We recommend you pick something that you enjoy as this will help you make the topic seem more interesting to your audience. It should be no more than one minute long. If you do use notes and/or a PowerPoint please do not read them out word for word.

You may use props, notes and/or a PowerPoint presentation if you wish.

Homework – Science Week

Next week is Science Week, we will be investigating how much light is reflected by different surfaces. For your homework we would like you to collect a range of small pieces of different materials, approximately 10cm x 10cm.

For example: tin foil, plastic, paper, cardboard and wherever possible try to use items that were destined for the recycling or the bin!

 

Please bring your materials in on MONDAY 14th MARCH.

For your homework this week we would like you to create a tiger in celebration of Chinese New Year on Tuesday 1st February.

Tony Martin, the manager of The Square in Sale and one of our School Governors has asked for artworks of tigers which may be used as part of a tiger trail around The Square.

You may use any media and style you like: pencils, pens, paint, create a collage, etc…

Year 3 Christmas Craft Week is next week. Unfortunately, making a party hat has not been included. If you would like to wear a party hat for your Christmas party on Tuesday 14th December your OPTIONAL homework is to create a hat for the event.

If you wish to do this, please bring your hat to school on Tuesday morning.

History Homework.

 

The Stone Age was a period of prehistoric time that spans more than 3 million years, ending with the transition to the Bronze Age around 6,000 years ago.

Our Stone Age ancestors achieved a number of major developments - key inventions that helped humans survive in a harsh world.

Your homework this week is to find out about some of the main inventions from the Stone Age.

Draw a labelled diagram of the invention and describe what it does.

Here are some ideas:

Stone/ wooden clubs

Sewing

Art (cave paintings)

Music (the first musical instruments)

Bows and arrows

Pigments (for body decoration)

Shelters (the first buildings)

 

 

Please note; the wheel was not invented during the Stone Age.

In year 3 we have just started to learn about our city – Manchester.  Over the next half term, you will be creating a book, in school, which contains everything you have learned.

For your homework this week, you have been given a piece of paper on which you will create the front page cover for your Manchester book.

Your cover needs to include:

  • Drawings or photos of items related to Manchester
  • Colour
  • Your name
