Today our Reception children enthusiastically took part in Odd Socks Day as part of Anti-Bullying Week. The classroom was full of bright colours, fun patterns, and lots of excited conversations as everyone proudly showed off their uniquely mismatched socks!
We talked about how wearing odd socks reminds us that we are all different and that our differences make us special. The children shared ideas about how to be kind, how to include others in play, and how to be a good friend.
Our Reception children have been learning all about Remembrance Day. We talked gently and thoughtfully about why people wear poppies and how this special day helps us remember and thank the brave men and women who helped keep us safe in the past and who continue to help us today.
Singing is such an important part of learning in Reception. It helps children to develop their listening and attention skills, language and vocabulary, and memory — all while having fun! We are so lucky to have Mr Boardman who visits us every Monday to sing our favourite songs with us and helps us to learn new ones too.
This week, Reception enjoyed reading the story We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger. The children loved joining in with the repeated phrases and spotting all the different autumn leaves. After reading the story, we took our learning outdoors and acted it out together! The children had so much fun pretending to climb over the mountain, paddle across the lake, and tiptoe through the forest, just like in the book. Lots of laughter, movement and teamwork!
This week, the children have been taking part in Dough Disco sessions — a fun and engaging way to strengthen the muscles in their hands and fingers! Using playdough and lively music, the children squeeze, roll, pinch, pat and poke the dough in time to the beat.
If you’d like to try it at home, all you need is some playdough and your favourite song — it’s a great way to build those little hand muscles while having fun together! 💪✨
In Reception we’ve been practising hopping, skipping, jumping, running, throwing and catching — all of the key movements that help us build strong coordination and balance.
To make our Pumpkin Soup story come to life, we had a special treat — tasting some real pumpkin soup! 🥣 The children helped to describe how it looked, smelled, and tasted, using fantastic vocabulary such as “orange,” “sweet,” and “warm”.
It was lovely to see so many happy faces and to hear the children making connections between our story and their real-life experience.
