Nursery

Photographers

When one of our friends brought their camera into nursery, we began to talk about how we can take photos both at home and in school. Our school cameras proved to be very popular and we even saw a professional photographer at work during our school class photo!

We can be vets!

Our role play areas has become a safe place for animals. The children have enjoyed learning about vets and how they can help a range of animals in different ways.

Stories, stories and more stories!

The children have been enjoying our series of Traditional Tales, learning about how some stories have been told for many years, We acted them out, made character puppets and tries out lots of different character voices! The children particularly loved looking at 'old' photos of their teachers and finding out about how they loved listening to stories when they were younger.

World Book Day was focused on the joy of sharing bedtime stories, with the children wearing their pyjamas and enjoying hot chocolate!

Weather

The weather in January has given us so many opportunities for learning about the world around us. In one month we have learnt about and experienced ice, snow, wind, storms, rain and sun! Our investigations have covered melting and freezing, snow play, winter trees and why we find so many sticks on the floor after a windy day.

The children loved reading 'Stickman' and discussing his adventures. Our own stick people had a great time exploring and creating mischief!

New Experiences

During December, we had lots of opportunities to participate in new events as a group. Working together is an important part of being in Nursery and the children have been absolutely fabulous.

The children practised and performed their Christmas songs in front of a large audience of parents and loved every minute of it!

We visited the Waterside Theatre to see the Snow Queen performance and learnt about how we can all look after our world.

Our Christmas Fair and parties were very exciting as we tried new games, danced with friends and had fun with craft activities.

Everyone is ready for a good rest over the holidays and we look forward to our new experiences in 2024!

Stay and Play!

We enjoyed our two Stay and Play sessions, where we talked about the importance of play in learning. Thank you to all of our families for your support.

Celebrating with our friends

Learning about different celebrations is great fun! We talked about the celebration of Diwali and found out about how some of our friends celebrate with their families at this time.

Bonfire Night

Fireworks are a great opportunity to learn through art, actions and lots of descriptive language.

Autumn is here!

We have loved working outside and talking about the signs of autumn around us.

We love to share books!

Singing in the Rain!

A day of heavy rain means a chance to sing and dance! We watched Gene Kelly and then created our own dance.

Mixing colours

Mixing colours to create new ones is good fun!

Owls

Ollie Owl helps us to learn about listening in Nursery and we have loved finding out more about owls.

Settling in together

We have had a great few weeks together in Nursery, meeting new friends and settling into the daily routine. The children have done so well and are very excited about the play and experiences on offer. This week, we have started thinking about ourselves and how we might be the same or different to other people around us. Lots of noticing and talking helps us to learn and build our skills as we play!

Our first few days in Nursery....

We have had a great time this week welcoming our new children into Nursery. We are looking forward to meeting the rest of our new friends next week!

Welcome to Nursery!

We are looking forward to welcoming your child into Nursery over the next couple of weeks.  The team have recorded a couple of videos for you to watch with your child. We know that familiarity with our faces and names will help your child as they settle into their new Nursery class. Please take time to watch the videos together as they prepare for their first day with us. Thank you!
