Spring 2

Performance Poetry

In our English lessons, we have been learning all about the features of poetry. We have found out about; kennings, alliteration, rhythm, rhyme, repetition, lines and stanzas. As well as writing our own poems we have been learning poetry too. Take a look at our recent performances!

We watched Michael Rosen's 'Top Tips' for performing poems and stories in an engaging and exciting way. We all agreed he was very inspirational and tried to include his advice in our performances.

Pancake Day!

You'd batter believe it's pancake day! An enormous thank you to Mandy Brown, Tilly's mum, who supported us in making and flipping our pancakes. We couldn't have done it without you.

Animal Adaptations

What a fantastic job 2 Rosen did sharing their science homework! We had PowerPoint presentations, models, posters, videos, books and facts sheets about animal adaptations. After each person shared their homework, we gave them some feedback in the form of two stars and a wish; two things each person had done really well and one thing we wished they had done in their presentation.

PROBOTS! In our computing lessons we have been learning how to make a probot, a floor robot, move. We learnt what algorithms are and how to create and debug simple programs. We instructed the probots on where to go and then increased our challenge by getting them to draw shapes.

Larkhill Place

As part of our history topic 'Our Town Sale',  we visited Lark Hill Place to learn all about life as a Victorian. We travelled back in time and visited a Victorian street. It was only right that we were dressed the part, so we were each given old children's clothes to wear. While there we explored a traditional toy shop, a cobblers, a blacksmiths and greengrocers. We walked down a Victorian street and compared it to or our own streets in Sale. We discussed how very different it was in the Victorian times.

Learning about the different jobs people did around the house and also looking at the toys Victorian children played with was really interesting and made us even more aware of how life has changed.

Today we walked into Sale to observe our 2 minutes silence at the cenotaph. We took this opportunity to relfect and think about all the soldiers and families that have been affected by all wars. We thought of the 5 men, who had been students at Springfield Primary School, who lost their life in WW1. We also laid a wreath and listened to the poem 'Flanders Fields'.

Once we got back to school we did some sketching of a poppy. We tried our best to think about the shape, texture and lines of a poppy and carefully copied the photos.

Inspired by the poppies that were place outside of the Tower of London in 2014, we made our own clay poppies. Together we found out more information about Paul Cummins who, with the help of over 20,000 volunteers made 888,246 ceramic poppies to honor all the British soldiers that had died in wars.

Road safety!

What an exciting morning we had learning road safety! After a fantastic assembly delivered by Ian and Paul, two lorry drivers from Gist, we all went outside to learn more about lorries and how to stay safe around them. We got shown where the blind spots are, what their stopping distance is and we even got to sit in the lorry driver's seat!

Autumn 1

English

Take a look at Chris' writing that has been published in our Writer's Corner. Throughout the year, different childrens' writing will be shared on this page. Chris has done a fantastic job with his letter and really deserved to have his work featured - wouldn't you agree? Our next piece of writing is going to be a story. Watch this space to see who will star in our Writer's Corner next...

P.E.

I don't like cricket, oh no. I LOVE it! This term we have been developing our cricket skills with our coach, Toby.

Science

After learning about Charles Macintosh, an inventor and scientist, who created a new, waterproof fabric we decided to investigate and find out which other materials were waterproof. We then used our findings to design a new raincoat. Here we are working as a team to find out which materials were waterproof and which were absorbent.

Forces; today we tested different objects to see if they would change shape when we applied different forces.

In science we have been learning about materials. In our first lesson, we used a venn diagram to sort and organise some different materials. We challenged ourselves to come up with our own sorting criteria. Today, we went on a hunt around our school looking for how many different objects we could find that we made out of the same material.

Topic

A tour of Sale; in our Topic lessons we have been thinking about why our school's town, Sale, is so special. To bring our learning to life, we went on a whistle stop tour of Sale town centre stopping at: St Paul's Church, The Square, the precinct and Sale Town Hall.

In topic we are learning about our town, Sale. To start our topic, we looked at the United Kingdom and the children drew a picture of what they thought the U.K looked like. What do you think of our first attempts?
