Responsibilities of the Staffing, Teaching and Learning Committee (STL)

  • To support the development of teaching excellence, a strong culture of leadership and management development
  • To determine the staffing structure of the school, including the leadership structure, based on proposal from the head teacher
  • To review annually, adopt and monitor the implementation of the performance related pay policy
  • To ensure that the annual pay recommendations cycle is carried out in line with statutory requirements
  • To support the head teacher in whole school curriculum development
  • To participate in the appointment of senior leaders (apart from the head teacher and deputy head teacher, where the panel will be selected by the Board of Governors) within school, in conjunction with the head teacher and as appropriate
  • To consider an annual report on the implementation of the performance related policy, including anonymised information on pay grades, pay increases and objective setting
  • To carry out an initial investigation of any staffing reductions, should this be required, with the head teacher and submit findings and recommendations to the Board of Governors
  • To subsequently, and based on agreement at the Board of Governors, carry out necessary consultations with the LEA and the recognised trade unions on behalf of the Board of Governors
  • To review and adapt all policies and its purview (see below), and make recommendations to the Board as required
  • To review and determine SLAs, delegated by the Board of Governors
