So please keep checking the page regularly for updates.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Reception at Springfield and we look forward to an exciting and successful year together.
Mrs Bevan, Mrs Hindley & Mrs Davies
After we learned about the Nativity Story and Advent, we began to talk about how countries around the world celebrate Christmas differently.
Max's Mummy came in to talk to us about how Christmas is celebrated in Sweden. We learned about receiving presents on Christmas Eve from Santa Claus himself, known as Tomten, and having a feast on the evening of Christmas Day. We also heard about the celebration of Santa Lucia on 13th December and tasty kanelbullar (cinnamon swirls) that are enjoyed.
Marco's Mummy came in to talk about Christmas celebrations in Spain where Epiphany is very important. We learned how Spanish people receive a visit from Papa Noel on Christmas Eve. Then Children and families in Spain attend a special parade on 6th January and celebrate the arrival of the Wise Men. We heard how children leave their shoes out and receive presents from the Wise Men as well as having a delicious ring-shaped cake to eat called Rosca de Reyes representing the Wise Men's search for Jesus. If you find the hidden toy King in the cake, you are King or Queen for the day!
Reception have been enjoying having ‘Mystery Readers’ coming into class to share a story. We have had 2 amazing readers sharing their favourite children’s story. The children have LOVED it!!!
This week we have been celebrating Anti-bullying week by having a “Kindness week” in Reception. The children came to school wearing odd socks to show that it’s ok to be different and how we should be proud of who we are.
We have been enjoying lots of activities in class, such as pairing up odd socks, designing their own odd socks, pegging up odd socks on a washing line and even dancing in their odd socks!
We also had a special surprise for the children, a video message from CBeebies presenter Andy from Andy and the Odds socks, for all the children at Springfield. He told us how important it is to be kind to each other and reminded Mrs Chard to wear her odd socks too!
Thank you for supporting such an important week in school.
We Love To Read!!!
We have a wide range of story books in our Reception classrooms, of both traditional, popular and new authors. We also visit the school library every week, which is well stocked with high quality stories and non-fiction books for the children to choose from.
If you would like an idea of age appropriate, high quality stories to share with your child at home, we have attached a list below with some ideas.
Apologies, but we have sent out the wrong 'green words' this week. Please keep hold of the 1.3 green word cards, as they should have been sent out on Thursday of next week.
We will send the correct word cards home on Monday, but if you would like to practise them over the weekend, the correct green words are on the photographs below.
Today we had some special visitors in school, who told us all about the importance of staying safe when near roads. The children sat and listened with interest and were so excited about this learning, that we came back to the classroom to role play crossing the road safely.
Hopefully by now, your children have been teaching you at home, the sounds that they have learned in school e.g. m,a,s. Please keep sticking the sound sheets that we send home each day into the red book. These books are for you to keep at home to practise the sounds with your children. Please try to keep up with the sound that is sent home each day - there are lots more to come!
After each group of sounds taught we will blend them to read words. This is called 'Wordtime' and we will send 'green' words home to practise.
Thank you for your support in your child's reading journey.
Reading Meeting Reminder
Today, they changed into their PE kits for the very first time. We were SO impressed with how the children all tried so hard to do it independently, challenging themselves with those tricky shirt buttons! You made your teachers very proud. Well done Reception Oak.

Once logged in, please go to 'Mini Mash' and explore!
Our first ‘Write Dance’ session
Today Reception Oak had their first ‘Write Dance’ session in the school hall. The ‘Write Dance’ scheme helps develop gross motor skills that are needed for a child to be able to hold and pencil and make marks confidently and well. The children really enjoyed listening to the Autumn leaves story and were able to match movements to the story using music, song and ribbons.
We are so proud of how well the children are managing with lunchtimes. Absolute superstars!!
