The children have been discussing the changes in the trees in Winter. Having learnt about 'bare' trees and why we find sticks on the floor in winter, the children have spent time exploring sticks and their many uses.
We shared the book 'Not a stick' and the children used their imagination to think of many ways to pretend with a simple stick. So many amazing ideas!
However, our favourite story this month was Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. We have enjoyed retelling and acting out the story together. The children loved making their own Stick character and then telling stories about their adventures around the nursery and at home.
We had a fabulous trip to the Waterside to see the amazing show 'Mr Popper's Penguins'. The children were captivated for the full hour by the acting, puppetry and singing. Everyone had a favourite part of the show and the children were really keen to talk about the experience when we returned to Nursery. Thank you to all of the adult helpers - we hope you enjoyed it too!
The children were excited about exploring our new technology resource. The children worked in small groups with the codeapillars and had opportunity to learn about the different parts. Having planned a route, they took turns to connect the pieces and program the movements of the codeapillar.
We all took the Rhyme Challenge on Friday 15th November in aid of Children in Need. During the performance the children sang 10 nursery rhymes which they had been practising for a number of weeks. This year the children also managed to learn a full nursery rhyme in Tamil. This was an important part of the challenge as we wanted to acknowledge the large number of different languages that are spoken within the families of our nursery children.
The children certainly rose to the event and sang with enthusiasm and confidence. Well done to everyone and many thanks to the parents for their support. We are proud to say that the children raised a total of £108.74, which has been donated to Children in Need.

The weather is continually changing at the moment and a windy day is a great opportunity to explore our new resources,
The children shared stories of their experiences in the wind and then we went outside to feel it for ourselves. The children loved seeing the evidence of the wind and thought the resources were fantastic.
The children shared their experiences and responses to fireworks experienced around the time of Diwali and Bonfire Night.
During the week they were able to reflect their knowledge and understanding in several different ways. As part of our learning ,we watched a firework display set to music on the smart board and the children loved reflecting their observations of movement and noise in chalked pictures. The highlight for many of the children was creating their own sparkler and using them to dance together in Nursery!
An opportunity to 'drive' a giant lorry was too good to miss! Having discussed road safety and the importance of listening to our adults, we were able to explore the truck parked in the playground. Very exciting!
We have had a very busy month visiting all of our families at home and then welcoming the children into nursery.
The children have been amazing and have settled very quickly into our busy environment. Many thanks to all of the parents and families for their support while we have been working to develop relationships with the children.
Our sessions are always busy with many different opportunities for play and exploration both inside and outside. In addition we have daily times set aside for for stories, singing and snack where we can learn to work together as a group.
Please ask member of the teaching team if you have any questions about our nursery activities or routines. We will always be very happy to chat with you.
