Week Commencing 8.6.20 - Coordinates and Reflections

This week's learning is all about coordinates and reflections. Some of this learning will be a recap from some Year 4 learning and some will also remind you of the coordinates work you did when learning about translations a few weeks ago. This area of maths is very visual so these lessons from the Oak National Academy website are very useful resources to work through as they provide clear video examples with activities throughout. The answers are explained throughout the videos so that you can check your understanding.

I am also providing you with some extra challenges of differing difficulty to have a go at after having a go at the lessons on the Oak National Academy website. These challenges will help you to apply your learning to problem solving.

I hope these are helpful resources for you Year 5! Keep up your hard work, I know it can be difficult to stay motivated at the moment, but remember that I am very proud of you all and if you would like to show off some of your maths learning, ask your adult nicely to send some pictures of some of your learning to the Year 5 email address.

Challenges:

The answers will be posted later in the week so that you can check your understanding.

Week Commencing 18.5.20 - Converting units of time

This week's target is practicing converting between different units of time. Have a look at the link below from the Oak National Academy first and work your way through some of the activities on the video (answers are shown as you go along). Next have a go at working through the PowerPoint, this has some recap sections and will move you on to applying some of your learning to problem solving (answers are again shown as you go).

Once you have looked through the online lesson and PPT, have a go at the activities underneath. Activity 1 will give you a challenge in itself but if you feel ready to push yourself further, have a go at Activity 2 or even the Activity 3! (I will post the answers for these activities on Thursday). Remember, if you have a wobble please don't worry about it, all of the teachers will be here to help you with anything you've wobbled with when we get back to school. Hope you are all keeping well, sending all my best wishes your way!

Week Commencing 11.5.20 - Coordinates and Translations

This week's learning involves a recap of some coordinates learning from Year 4 then moves you onto understanding translations of points and shapes. This area of maths is very visual so these lessons from the Oak National Academy website are very useful resources to work through as they provide clear video examples with activities throughout. Well done for all of your hard work Year 5!

Here are a few extra challenges that you could do to practice your learning over the past few days. The Answers are at the bottom of the documents so you can check if you're correct once you are finished.

Week Commencing 4.5.2020 - Regular and Irregular Polygons

Place Value Revision:

We covered all of the Place Value targets for Year 5 during the Autumn term which is why it is important to refresh our understanding throughout the year. Have a go at some of the challenges in this revision booklet. Don't feel you have to complete every single challenge, but try to do a few questions for each target. Understanding of place value is the most important thing in maths - you need this understanding to tackle most other areas of maths.

I will post the answers for this booklet at the end of the week.
