The Mighty Lions had a fantastic first day back - we had lots of fun making our brand new tray labels, decorating our home learning books, making face masks and getting to know our new friends in our group! It was a brilliant start full of laughter and smiles - Miss Sherlock, Miss McNally, Mrs O'Reilly and Mrs Carroll are all incredibly proud of the positive start the Lions have had and can't wait for the weeks ahead! Please follow the updates on this page to see what we've been getting up to during this time!
This afternoon 'The Mighty Lions' were lucky enough to have a visit from Springfield's very own Barney! It was lovely to see him and give lots of fuss and cuddles - some of the children even had the chance to read an extract of James and the Giant Peach to Barney!
This week we have begun learning a new dance routine with Mrs Ayin! We had a great time learning some new dance moves, building up our stamina and flexibility and getting our bodies moving. You can have a look at our first 'practice' in the video below! Stay tuned on 'The Mighty Lions' page to see our progress throughout the next few weeks!
Today 'The Mighty Lions' learnt a little about the work of Claude Monet. They noticed his use of colour and shade to create different seasons and times of day within his work - taking inspiration from one of his paintings. Beginning by sketching their chosen design on to their paper, the children were able to use watercolour paints to create their own Monet inspired pieces of art - well done Lions!
The Mighty Lions have been keeping active with our own set of mini active 'challenges'. We are tracking our progress each week and trying to build up our stamina and performance! It is important to keep our bodies moving - and today we certainly made sure of that! Take a look at how we got on below!
Today 'The Mighty Lions' made 'Hero Cards' for the heroes in their lives - whether that's Mum, Dad, Nanna, Grandad, Auntie or Uncle it is important to celebrate the people who love and care for us.
The Mighty Lions are continuing with their active challenges - we had lots of PBs broken on our second attempt! The children have been continuing to develop their stamina, balance and speed. Keep it up Lions!
Today we began to recreate our own L.S. Lowry paintings - we looked at the urban landscapes of Lowry and his use of 'matchstalk men' to create busy, industrial scenes. We began by sketching out our images and then adding paints to create different mood and tones.
The Mighty Lions had a Science afternoon this Wednesday exploring the school garden for different habitats. Distinguishing between mini and micro habitats, the children were able to uncover a huge variety of different insects! Together with their partner, they set about logging their discoveries and capturing images of the insects and their homes. The children then used these to create some detailed sketches! It was a lovely way to spend a beautifully sunny afternoon!
The Mighty Lions took part in a robotics workshop today - using their coding skills and coordination to move our guest robot, Sphero, around a series of different routes and trails!
The Mighty Lions had an Art based afternoon to start off their week - using watercolours and tape to create interesting shapes and patterns on their canvas. The children began by planning their designs and colour schemes on a piece of paper. These were then used to create designs on to the canvas with masking tape. The children then used the watercolours to paint their different sections. Once these were dried, the tape was then removed to reveal the final design! The creativity and variation across the group was fantastic - and all the children created wonderfully eye-catching and unique pieces of art! Take a look at the images below to see the process and the completed canvases.
