Welcome to Year 5!
If you have any questions or concerns, at any point in the year, please speak to a member of staff. Your child's teacher can be contacted through a note in their homework diary, in person at home time, or by phone through the office.
Here are a selection of useful documents that can be used to help your child's learning at home. Feel free to use these resources as you wish. They are not being set as homework tasks and therefore are not required to be brought back in to school. However, you may find them helpful when completing other homework tasks, or for general guidance when working with your child.
An overview of the Year 5 curriculum can be found on the school website. Please see the curriculum page under the 'Key Information' heading for more details.
A really useful resource to help inspire children when writing at home. Each day, a new photo stimulus is uploaded onto the above website, with a story starter that can then be continued. This is a great way to ensure children are writing in lots of different styles, encouraging their creativity and imagination.
More information on growth mindset can be found on the 'Parent Workshops' page, in the Parents' section of the school website.
The following websites offer useful guidance in choosing appropriate books for children:
In year 5, maths and English homework will be given out each Friday to be completed for the following Wednesday. Homework will be uploaded onto the school website. Topic homework will be project based and set across a half term, allowing children to take ownership of their learning. Children should complete their homework as independently as possible.
In year 5, children will have one PE lesson on a Monday morning and another on a Thursday afternoon.
In year 5, we expect children to read at home regularly as part of their homework. Children should aim to read at home at least three times per week.
Every child should have a pencil case with them in school every day containing 'The Springfield Simple 7'.
Please ensure that all belongings, including water bottles and stationery are labelled with your child's name.
