Y6 Homework Expectations
As detailed in your home/school diaries (p10), children in Year 6 should spend between 2-2.5 hours per week on homework, plus 25 to 30 minutes reading time per evening.
This total homework time will be made up of a variety of tasks.
Each week, as a minimum we would like you to complete:
Following the suggested timings above, this should take a total time of 1 hour 50 minutes.
As well as the minimum expectations above, you can spend any additional time practising spellings from the Year 5/6 Spelling Lists, reading for pleasure, or completing extra revision on Times Tables Rock Stars or Read Theory.
If you are having any issues with parts of your homework, it is your responsibility to speak to your teacher before the day that your homework is due in.
Can you explain to someone at home what you have learnt about bridges this week?
To demonstrate your understanding and enjoyment of the book you are reading at home, you must create a Reading Journal. This will be made up of a variety of tasks which you will complete as you read the book. We suggest a task at the end of each chapter, with a minimum of eight tasks per book. You can present these tasks creatively, in any way you like, on a double-page in your Reading Journal. Please see the example sheet for inspiration and the activities sheet for those to choose from (you also have copies in your Reading Journal). Over the course of the year, you will build up a bank of double-page-spreads to show your reading journey throughout Year 6! Have fun with it and get creative! The most impressive examples will be displayed in class!
