Y5 Hawking

At Springfield, we care, learn and achieve together.

The values are:

We support and care for each other

We challenge ourselves to learn

We are motivated to achieve our best

Together, we are a team

Year 5 had a fantastic time at the amazing Jodrell Bank learning about Earth and Space for our science topic. We really impressed the staff with all our knowledge and insightful questions. What a great day!

National Science Week - FixPerts

Year 5 Hawking children met Leila, who they showed great empathy to, when she told us some of her everyday challenges. We worked to find solutions to the challenges to (hopefully) impress Leila. She seemed very pleased with the prototypes we produced!

When the children of 5 Hawking became teachers!

5 Hawking planned and delivered a session to year 2 about how to work well as a team, meeting our value 'Together, we are a team'. The children planned lots of teambuilding activities, complete with props and costumes, using the theme of our current topic Space.

Well done 5 Hawking!

The Solar System

In Science, we made a playground scale of the Solar System using fruit to represent each of the planets. We also made 'A Solar System in Your Pocket' in order to understand the distances between each of the planets in our solar system.

Jess and Isabel made some fantastic plaques about cutting down on plastic to improve our environment. They made them at Brownies and brought them in to present to us!

Our Vikings TASC

This week we have learned and researched into how the Vikings prepared their food. We then designed a menu for a Viking restaurant! We have also made Viking flatbread and homemade butter to learn how the Vikings were able to make food. It tasted really nice but was a bit dry - we added some honey to make it sweeter, which the Vikings would have done too.

We showcased our Viking projects and looked at other children's too. Miss Landi is extremely impressed with the effort we have put into them this term!

During English, we have been learning about the story Pandora's Box. Here, we are taking part in an activity called conscience alley which allowed us to use Pandora's conscience to determine what action our character should have taken.

We have made an excellent start to year 5. We are all working very hard - keep it up!

Keep visiting our page to see what exciting things we have been up to. You will be able to follow our learning and also find your homework here each week.
