Y2 Armstrong

To introduce our new topic, 2 Armstrong used a diamond 9 to sort and order what they thought was the best thing about being on holiday. This activity not only opened up an interesting discussion, but also enabled the children to work as a team and use their justification and reasoning skills.

Year 2 continued developing their knowledge of plants by going on a plant hunt in the school garden. Not only were they able to identify the plants located in our local habitat, they also discovered many other living things too.

2 Armstrong have thoroughly enjoyed this terms Science topic on plants. Recently, they have been conducting an experiment to find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. This has been conducted by them observing seeds and bulbs over time, in order to describe how they grow into mature plants.

Wow! Our Science experiment results are starting to take shape. Only a few more weeks to go until we can record our findings.

The children in 2 Armstrong adore getting creative in Art. Here they are exploring line, texture and colour whilst designing and creating mixed media Faberge Eggs.

2 Armstrong have had a blast designing and creating tools to help out a number of characters. We were able to work in teams to be real Fixperts.

Whilst celebrating World Book Day, the children shared and retold stories to one another. This was done through many creative and ingenious ways, including the use of puppets, acting, props and cartoons

This morning we walked to the cenotaph and spent a few minutes looking at the names displayed on it along with the poppies that are already on display there. We had a two minutes silence where we spent time reflecting. The children were beautifully behaved and very respectful.

This afternoon we had a lovely visit to St Paul's Church. We went there to look at the 'There but not there' display that commemorates the of the end of the First World War. The display aims to teach others about commemoration, it is there to educate people about the war and they hope it will help people heal.

Welcome to Year 2 Armstrong!

We have made a great start to the term and have been learning about what life was like 100 years ago in our topic work, focusing specifically on World War 1 and what it was like to live in the war.

In science we have continued with learning about materials. We have been learning about their different properties, whether they are natural or man made and how certain materials are made. We enjoyed our investigation learning all about the suitability of  materials.

Investigating which is the most absorbent material!
